Windsurfing: Loch Indaal, Islay Wind Direction: W Wind Stength: 16-25 knots Surf / Sea State: Choppy Air Temperature: 16ÂșC Sea Temperature: Weather: Cloudy Max Speed: 28.8 (knots - unless stated otherwise) Distance Covered: 35.4 (Nautical Miles - unless stated otherwise)
A full day windsurfing on the choppy waters of Loch Indaal. I launched from
Traigh an Luig to the east of the rocky spit. Started with my 6.7m and my
new S-Type 104. Nicely powered and managed lots of fast runs, the fastest
being 28.8 knots.
The wind picked up so I changed down to my 5.7, and was blasting across the
loch until level with Bowmore. The wind continued to pick up so I stopped
for lunch and packed my 6.7m away and rigged my 5m and Naish Hybrd
Freewave. Once again I was nicely powered with the smaller kit but not
maxed out and managed a top speed of 26.6 knots. I stayed out for a while
with that before going out with the 5m and the S-Type. Top speed with this
was now 28.4 knots, but the water was quite choppy by now.
On one mad speed run it all went wrong resulting in a huge crash and one
very bruised chin! It was really swollen by the evening.
A great session on Islay.
